Brian Moon, a structural engineer with consulting business Reid Middleton of Everett, has been promoted to a principal of the firm. Moon has 27 years of experience and his recent work includes the award-winning seismic retrofit of the city Of Edmonds’ Francis Anderson Center. Shanna Vasser of the firm’s airport engineering group recently earned her state license for civil engineering.
Events
Sample South County, featuring signature items from 15 local restaurants, as well as beer and wine, will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Lynnwood Convention Center. The event will also include live music and entertainment. Cost is $25.
A meeting to solicit comments on the Port of Everett’s governance will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the former Everett Yacht Club, 404 14th Place W., Everett. The meeting will include comments from Bruce Faires, a commissioner from the Port of Edmonds, which expanded its board from three to five members. The Everett commission is trying to determine whether it should do the same, and possibly reduce commissioners’ terms from six to four years.
New online
A new Web site offering a guide to downtown Everett has been launched by Skotdal Real Estate. DowntownEverett.com offers events, retailers, other businesses, restaurants and activities.
New business
Goodwill will open a 20th store in Monroe at 9 a.m. Thursday at 14751 Chain Lake Road. The first 500 customers will receive a free reusable shopping bag and can enter a drawing for prizes. About 50 employees will work at the store.
The Red Door Gallery has opened its doors at 2829 Wetmore Ave., Everett. The art galley showcases unique artwork. This month’s theme is Personal Icons, small works with personal meaning to the artists, gallery founders Cheri O’Brien, Evelia Sanchez, Shari Osti, Roxanne Jaross and Bob Hoverter. Gallery hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. the first, second and fourth Saturdays, and 4 to 7 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month for art walk. Business moves
The Nock Point, a retail archery store with shooting lanes, has recently moved from an eight-lane facility to one with 26 lanes each 20 yards long. The new facility, 22313 70th Ave. W., Suite U5A, Mountlake Terrace, has 7,000 square feet, more than double the previous location.
JavaInn Coffee Roasters has moved to a new location inside Todo Mexico Restaurant, 1101 First St., Snohomish, just across the street from the previous site. Owner Karen Everest can be reached at 360-568-8254.
Income tax info
The Everett Mail Processing Facility, 8120 Hardeson Road, will pick up federal tax returns at midnight Thursday to ensure they get postmarked.
Awards
Larry Scott, president and founder of 911ETC in Everett, was honored recently in Washington, D.C., for developing software that helps emergency officials identify calls and locations from multiline phones.
