Jim Litz, the site business manager with Agilent Technologies, is the new chairman of the board for United Way of Snohomish County. New board members include Brian Baird of the Boeing Co.; Andrew Ballard, a marketing consultant; Josh Estes of the pulp and paper workers union; Frank Guglielmo of the Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace; Ron Heller of Union Bank; and Grace Holland of the Machinists Union. And Matt Reinhard, leader of RhinoVentures, a commercial real estate company, is rejoining the board.

Christian McCabe is the new executive director of the Northwest Pulp and Paper Association. He succeeds Llewellyn Methews, who retired.

Janet Kusler, owner of Kusler’s Pharmacy in Snohomish, recently addressed attendees of the annual convention of the National Community Pharmacists Association in Nashville, Tenn. She talked about the importance on ensuring that patients take their medication.

Kevin Quigley, formerly president at Everett Shipyard, has been named president of US Fab, the industrial fabrication division of VIGOR. VIGOR, which purchased Todd and Everett shipyards earlier this year, runs major ship building and repair facilities in six cities in the Northwest.

Monroe Toastmasters will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Merrill Gardens, 15465 179th Ave. SE. Toastmasters helps people improve speaking and leadership skills.

Edward Jones financial adviser Sterling Gurney of Snohomish will host a coffee club at 10 a.m. Thursday at 602 Second St., Suite C, Snohomish.

“Getting Your Dough To Rise,” the monthly personal finance show on KSER (90.7 FM), will air Tuesday at 6 p.m. Host Chuck Noel will talk with guests Doug Gordon of Russell Investments, investment advisor Paul Merriman of Seattle and Eldon Samp, energy conservation consultant at the Snohomish County PUD.

Seminars, classes

Three sessions of an apprentice beekeeper course will be offered by Snohomish County Extension Service and Beez Neez Apiary Supply. The first session of the five-week course, offered for three hours on Monday evenings, will begin Nov. 7 at 6:30 p.m. at McCollum Park in the extension service’s Cougar Auditorium, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. It will be repeated Jan. 9 and Feb. 27. Call 425-357-6019.

Business news

The number of injuries in the workplace continues to fall, the Department of Labor & Industries said. A survey showed that five out every 100 full-time workers suffered a job related injury in 2010, the agency said. That’s down from 5.3 percent in 2009.
