Global Spectrum, the management company for Comcast Arena in Everett, has a new executive chef. Duff Allen will be responsible for overseeing all culinary aspects of Centerplate’s food and beverage operations within the arena and the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center. A Northwest native, Allen has several decades of experience. He co-owns Northwest Spice Co. in Seattle.

Coastal Community Bank says Mike Spencer has joined the bank as vice president and senior relationship manager for the bank’s commercial and small-business banking team. Spencer has more than 20 years of banking experience in Snohomish County at US Bank and Cascade Bank. He has been involved in a number of Snohomish County organizations, including Hospice and HomeCare of Snohomish County and United Way.

Dale Parker has joined Goldfinch Brothers as a salesman in the residential division of the Everett glass company. Parker spent the past five years at Reeb Millworks as a territory manager and architectural rep.

Amy Zuvela has been elected to the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation Board of Directors. An avid reader and Lake Stevens resident, Zuvela has worked for Costco Wholesale in Everett for the past eight years. The extensive list of community organizations that Zuvela has volunteered with includes Leadership Snohomish County, Costco Volunteer Tutoring Program, Project Homeless Connect and Freedom Fest Northwest.

Kudos

State Rep. Norma Smith, R-Clinton, was recently presented the Guardian of Small Business Award by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) for her voting record during the 2011-12 legislative sessions. NFIB State Director Patrick Connor commended Smith for taking some difficult stands to support small businesses and for being a leader on business and economic development issues.

RBC Wealth Management of Edmonds is offering a free CPA continuing education seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 20 in the Edmonds Library Plaza Room, 650 Main St. A complimentary lunch will be served. Events

The Bartell Drug Community Food Drive runs through June 10 at all 58 Bartell Drug locations in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties. The event is a new community partnership with Food Lifeline. Non-perishable food and other items such as baby formula, diapers and personal hygiene products will help replenish local food banks.

The Papery, a downtown Edmonds business since 1986, is hosting a grand reopening to celebrate expanded retail space. The event is held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be complimentary snacks and beverages and a chance to win door prizes. Economic Alliance Snohomish County and United Way of Snohomish County plan a community welcome for the USS Nimitz from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 6 at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center in Comcast Arena. Cost is $45. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. Go to www.economicalliancesc.org for more information.

On June 5, Whole Foods Market will donate five percent of sales from each of the six Seattle metro locations to PAWS. The locations are Interbay, Roosevelt Square, Westlake, Bellevue, Redmond and the recently opened Snohomish County store in Lynnwood. PAWS rehabilitates injured and orphaned wildlife, shelters and adopts out cats and dogs, and educates the public.

Announcements

United Way of Snohomish County has announced eight recipients of grants to promote financial education. Each project received the maximum $5,000. The recipients are Senior Services of Snohomish County, Friends of Youth-New Ground Everett, ClearPoint Credit Counseling Solutions, Volunteers of America Western Washington, Junior Achievement of Washington, Latino Education &Training Institute, Lutheran Community Services Northwest, and Lake Stevens Family Center, Lutheran Community Services Northwest and Familias Unidas.
