Werkhoven Dairy in Monroe won the Outstanding Dairy Farm Sustainability Award at the inaugural awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., last week. The dairy is part of the Sno/Sky Ag Alliance. Co-managers and brothers Andy and Jim Werkhoven have worked closely with Qualco Energy, a nonprofit that turns manure from cows into energy for the electrical grid. Nationally, there were 44 entries, and Washington dairies won in two of three categories.

Elle Marie Hair Studio, owned by Colleen Buck, Jody Bossert and Lorry Green, was recently named to the Salon Today 200 list by Salon Today magazine. It was Elle Marie’s third recognition in as many years. The 200 salons were selected from nominations submitted by Salon Today readers. Elle Marie Hair Studio has locations in Lake Stevens and Bothell.

New solar inverters from Silicon Energy (silicon-energy.com), a Marysville-based manufacturer of solar photovoltaic systems, have earned the state Department of Revenue’s “Made in Washington” approval.

People

Local entrepreneur Paul Davenport has launched Molly Maid of Mill Creek and Woodinville. The Molly Maid service provides screened, bonded and insured home-cleaning professionals. Molly Maid of Mill Creek and Woodinville also intends to give to the community through the Ms. Molly Foundation, which supports victims of domestic violence and their families.

Mountain Pacific Bank has announced two promotions. Kirby Duncan was named senior vice president of loan administration and Sandra Waldo was promoted to senior vice president of operations. Mountain Pacific Bank is headquartered in Everett and operates branch offices in Everett and Lynnwood.

Dr. Don Crow, founding dentist of Everett Dental Sleep Solutions, has been named a Medicare-approved durable medical equipment provider — able to offer seniors oral appliance therapy for obstructive sleep apnea.

Events

The 70-year-old Seattle- Snohomish Mill that is scheduled to close this month will be presented with a certificate of community appreciation at the March 20 Snohomish Chamber of Commerce meeting and luncheon. For more information and to RSVP, call 360-568-2526 or email manager@cityofsnohomish.com.

The Sky Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Information Center is holding a fundraising auction April 7. The event will support the Sky Valley Recreation &Planning group, which creates unique recreation opportunities, and the Innovative Partnership Zone, which is working to encourage manufacturing and tourism. Classes and workshops

Registration is now open for the Washington Tourism Alliance Summit on April 5. The event is a chance to meet with fellow business leaders committed to promoting tourism in Washington. Everett Community College will offer a new capstone financial accounting class starting April 2 for students and professionals who want to enhance or refresh their accounting knowledge and skills. As a hybrid class, a portion of the coursework and instruction will be done online. To register, go to www.everettcc.edu/registration. Those who have previously taken classes for credit at Everett Community College can register at www.everettcc.edu/kiosk.

Sultan Mayor Carolyn Eslick will host a free workshop on social marketing. The guest speaker will be MadCityBuzz.com ad consultant Kat Johnson. Business owners will learn how to turn social networking into a free and effective marketing tool. The workshop will be 8-9:30 a.m. on March 16 in the Sultan Visitors Information Center. Announcements and news

Groundbreaking has begun in Everett for a new corporate headquarters for Majestic Glove, a leading supplier of gloves, protective clothing and boots. The high-efficiency industrial building will be one block east of Paine Field in Everett and will include up to 40,000 additional square-feet of leased space for distribution or manufacturing. Panattoni Development is developing the Lance Mueller-designed building, and Poe Construction is the contractor.
