The founder of Western Washington Medical Group, Dr. Ignatius Marsidi, has retired from the group’s department of gastroenterology. Marsidi came to Everett in 1980 and established his gastroenterology practice in a rented office on Colby Avenue as a solo practitioner. He founded WWMG with three other specialists in 1994. WWMG now has 17 specialties and four family practice groups.
The Bank of Washington has welcomed Jeannette Mitchell as the new vice president and commercial loan officer in Everett. Mitchell’s banking career spans more than 35 years. She is a graduate of Pacific Coast Banking School and is affiliated with the University of Washington, Northwest Intermediate Banking School and Northwest Commercial Lending School.
Energy leaders from across Washington have appointed commissioner Kathleen Vaughn of Snohomish County Public Utility District 1 to serve as chair of the Energy Northwest executive board’s Audit, Legal and Finance Committee. Vaughn also serves on the Policy Makers Council for the American Public Power Association to work on national energy policy issues in Washington, D.C.

Boeing, Airbus and Embraer will present product updates and speakers will discuss what is happening in the defense and commercial aviation sectors at Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance’s 12th Annual Aerospace Conference. WorkSource Snohomish County and the Future of Flight Foundation are hosting a free Aerospace Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Feb. 20. The Zonta Club of Everett will holding its annual Celebration of International Women’s Day at a luncheon meeting at noon on March 7 at the Everett Golf &Country Club. The guest speaker will be Janice Ellis. Her topic is “Violence Against Women in Indian Country.” Ellis has served as the prosecuting attorney for the Tulalip Tribes.

HopeWorks Social Enterprises, in partnership with Workforce Development Council Snohomish County, has announced the 2013 Social Enterprise Workshop schedule. A brown-bag lunch workshop titled “Feasibility and Viability Assessment for Social Enterprise Development Using a Matrix Screening Tool” is from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ken Schilaty Learning Center at 5908 Evergreen Way in Everett.
Businesses holding unclaimed property can learn about their obligation to report it to the state through free workshops being offered by the Washington State Department of Revenue. The 2013 workshop schedule and registration is online at dor.wa.gov/UCPWorkshops. One of the first workshops is on Feb. 13 in Bothell.
Monthly peer-coaching groups for executive directors or CEOs with three or more years of experience will be available from Capacity4Good Consulting beginning April 10. More than 150 people were present for the ribbon cutting at the new Gene Juarez Academy and Salon at Gateway Place in Mountlake Terrace on Jan. 30. It officially opened on Jan. 24 and is now taking appointments from the public. It has a capacity of 300 students.
The Future of Flight Aviation Center &Boeing Tour welcomed 225,728 visitors from around the world in 2012, which is a 9 percent increase in gate attendance over 2011. There also was a 16 percent increase in gross revenue. The facility’s operational expenses were well under budget, the center said in a news release.
A new free Android mobile app developed by the Washington State Department of Revenue enables businesses to quickly look up sales and use tax rates for any Washington location. The Android version follows an earlier iPhone version and is now available at the Google Play Store.
The U.S. Small Business Administration has launched a new web page and blog dedicated to educating small business owners about the Affordable Care Act. The new web page, at www.sba.gov/healthcare, breaks down the key provisions of the act based on business size. It also provides links to other useful information for small businesses.
Washington Banking Company, the holding company for Whidbey Island Bank, announced a quarterly cash dividend of $0.15 per common share to shareholders of record on Feb. 11, payable on Feb. 26. The bank also reported that 2012 earnings increased 13 percent to $16.8 million, compared to $14.9 million in 2011, which included $1.1 million for its final preferred dividend payment.
