The Boeing Co.’s chief executive sees more work going to the company’s South Carolina facility if the 787 production ramp up there is successful.
Jim McNerney, Boeing’s CEO, told the Charleston Post and Courier in an interview that he’s pleased with progress on the company’s new 787 final assembly factory there.
“Depending on the performance it could be the basis for significant new business,” McNerney told the publication. “It’s our judgment that all the ingredients are in place for this to become a very competitive plant.
McNerney said that workers in South Carolina will have to “earn” new work, a statement he’s made to workers in the Puget Sound region as well.
Boeing decided a year ago to place its second 787 line in North Charleston, rather than in Everett.
