The Boeing Co. has delivered its 7,000th 737 aircraft to Dubai-based flydubai, the jet maker said on Friday.
The aircraft is a 737-800 and is the 14th of its kind to go to flydubai, which has an additional 30 737-800s on order with Boeing.
“It is incredible to be delivering our 7,000th 737,” Beverly Wyse, general manager of the 737 program, said in a statement. “We thank flydubai and all our customers who have made the 737 the world’s most popular jet airliner.”
Wyse noted that Boeing’s success on the 737 program is due to the expertise of thousands of the company’s employees.
Boeing’s 737 program has won orders for 9,300 aircraft, including orders and commitments for 900 of Boeing’s latest version of the single-aisle jet, the 737 MAX.
Boeing has been speeding up production on its 737, which is built in Renton. The company said it took nearly five years to produce 1,000 737s between the 4,000th and 5,000th aircraft. But it two years less time to build the aircraft from the 6,000th 737 to the 7,000th one delivered to flydubai on Friday.
The company will increase from roughly 35 aircraft a month in early 2012 to 42 monthly by 2014.
“We are proud to be a part of this important milestone for the 737,” said Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO, flydubai. “The Next-Generation 737 is a major cornerstone to flydubai’s modern, fuel-efficient and economical portfolio of commercial jets.”
More than 5,400 737s are being flown by 358 airlines around the world.
