The Machinists’ union continues its strike against the Boeing Co. on Monday.
Roughly 24,000 union members across the Puget Sound walked out of Boeing’s jet factories early Saturday morning, effectively shutting down production. Machinists have set up round-the-clock picket lines outside Boeing gates. The union has said Boeing fell short of its demands in its three-year contract offer.
No meetings between Boeing and the Machinists have been scheduled for further negotiations.
Analysts estimate the strike could cost Boeing $100 million daily in lost production. And a local economist estimates that Snohomish County would see about $100 million less in workers’ paychecks if the strike drags out for a month.
The Machinists last went on strike against Boeing for 28 days in 2005.
