The Boeing Co. named Nicole Piasecki, vice president of business strategy and marketing in its commercial unit, as its new president of Boeing Japan, the company said Tuesday. Piasecki will take over the position in March. She also will assume vice presidency of Boeing International. Piasecki will replace Robert Orr, who is retiring after leading Boeing’s activities in Japan for five years.
ICOS takeover vote set for Dec. 19
ICOS Corp. has set Dec. 19 as the date when shareholders will vote on the biotechnology company’s proposed $2.1 billion acquisition by Eli Lilly &Co. The vote will take place at ICOS’ Bothell headquarters. A large investor already has said it will oppose the acquisition, but the company’s board recommends approval. Lilly has warned that it plans to significantly reduce local jobs.
Aeromexico orders 787s and 737s
Boeing Co. said Tuesday that Mexico City carrier Aeromexico had ordered two of its new fuel-efficient 787 jets and 10 of its narrow-body 737s. The orders could be worth more than $900 million at list prices, although buyers typically get deals. Boeing had previously recorded the orders but had not attributed them to a customer.
Rental firm Hertz is ready to go public
Car rental company Hertz Global Holdings Inc. plans to go public this week in a move that could test the rapid-turnaround approach that equity firms have taken to wrest profits from investments. The offering, slated for Thursday, comes less than a year after three private funds bought Hertz from Ford Motor Co. for $15 billion, saddling Hertz with $12 billion of the debt. Already, the owners have paid themselves a $1 billion dividend and plan to use more than $400 million of the $1.6 billion in anticipated IPO proceeds for another one.
Airlines plan to add iPod integration
Apple Computer Inc. said Tuesday that its iPod media players will be integrated with the entertainment systems of six airlines. Passengers on United, Continental and Delta airlines, as well as Emirates, KLM and Air France, will be able to power and charge their iPods during flights and watch video from their iPods on seat-back displays by mid-2007.
