EVERETT – The Boeing Co. got its first tidbit of good news in weeks today, adding requests for 85 aircraft to its orders tally.
Boeing attributed the orders to an unidentified customer on its orders and deliveries Web page this morning. The new requests include orders for 40 single-aisle 737s, 10 777s and 35 787 Dreamliner jets. Boeing has won 275 net orders so far this year.
Over the past few weeks, the Chicago-based company stock has dropped having lost a multi-billion dollar contract supplying the Air Force with aerial refueling tankers. Boeing filed a protest Monday over the Pentagon’s decision to go with a tanker proposed by Northrop Grumman and EADS, the parent company of Airbus.
Airbus, which updates its orders monthly, reported early this week that it had received 341 net orders for its jets through the end of February. Airbus fell behind Boeing in total jet orders each of the past two years after leading the commercial jet race earlier in the decade.
Last week, Boeing also battled new rumors that its 787 Dreamliner jet faces another delay. The company confirmed a third delay in January but declined to give a detailed delivery scheduled for its fast-selling 787 until early April. An analyst with Goldman Sachs predicted that the first flight and first delivery of the 787 may be pushed back by as much as six months. Boeing originally intended to deliver the first Dreamliner this May.
Shares of Boeing’s stock traded up 38 cents this morning after closing at a 52-week low of $72.13 yesterday.
