Production at the Boeing Co.’s Everett factory picked up slightly in the last three months of 2004, delivery figures released Wednesday show.
For the year, however, deliveries from the Everett factory were down compared with 2003.
Overall, Boeing delivered 67 jets in the fourth quarter, which allowed it to hit its target of 285 deliveries for 2004, the company reported.
Total deliveries were up slightly over 2003’s total of 281. Boeing’s year-end order totals also appear to be up slightly, according to information available from the company Wednesday.
For the year, Boeing delivered nine 767s, 15 747s and 36 777s from Everett in 2004. That was down from 2003, when the company built and delivered 24 767s, 19 747s and 39 777s.
Boeing, which built and delivered only two 767s in each of the first three quarters of the year, delivered three in the fourth quarter. After delivering only two 747s in the third quarter, Boeing delivered four jumbo jets in the fourth.
Deliveries of Boeing’s top-selling wide-body, the 777, also increased, from eight in the third quarter to nine in the fourth.
Boeing plans to increase companywide production to between 315 and 320 jets in 2005.
It has not yet released its year-end order totals. But as of Dec. 23, it reported 242 firm new jet orders, up from 240 new orders in 2003.
On the orders side, All Nippon Airways’ purchase of 50 7E7s was the year’s biggest deal. It launched Boeing’s 7E7 program in April and was worth $6.25 billion at list prices, although the Japanese airline almost certainly received a healthy discount.
Southwest Airlines was a top Boeing customer for the year. As of November, it had taken deliveries of 43 737s – more jets than any other buyer – and had placed orders for another five.
International Lease Finance Corp. was another big buyer of Boeing planes in 2004. Through November, it had taken delivery of 24 737s, seven 777s and two 747s.
