On Monday, Boeing officials thanked Spirit AeroSystems workers for their efforts after a tornado struck the supplier’s Wichita site in April.
“This was a devastating event yet you performed nothing short of a miracle in getting your factory back up and running in just one week,” Kent Fisher, general manager of supplier management for Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said in a statement. “That speaks volumes to the value we place in our partnership with all of you.”
The April 14 storm damaged nearly 40 buildings and knocked out power and water to the facility. Spirit employees and contractors worked around the clock to repair damage and to get the supplier ready to open its doors again eight days later. Boeing said it has not missed any deliveries as a result of the storm.
“Together we had one goal and that was to eliminate any impact of this storm on our customer,” said Jeff Turner, Spirit’s president. “Through the storm we remained focused on returning to full production and keeping our commitments.”
