The Boeing Co. is sending a 787 plane to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for more tests next week.
The airport was selected in part because of the runway size and instrumentation at the airport, the Associated Press reported. The tests will be conducted on Tuesday.
Boeing already delivered its first 787 to Japan’s All Nippon Airways in late September but has continued testing for the General Electric engines and for other purposes.
Yesterday, Boeing sent its first 787 test plane, known as ZA001, to Palmdale, Calif., where it will be decommissioned as a test aircraft.
In this piece, FlightBlogger takes a look back at major milestones in the first 787’s life. It also notes that this aircraft is possibly the most expensive test asset in history with its cost estimated at $4 billion.
