As part of its previously announced employment cuts, the Boeing Co. has cut 2,140 jobs in Washington state since the beginning of the year.
More than half of those jobs, 1,219, were lost last month. The job cuts are coming through layoffs and attrition.
As of April 30, Boeing employs 74,277 people in the state. That’s down from a high of 76,869 at the end of last October.
In January, Boeing announced it planned to cut 10,000 jobs across the company, including 4,500 in its commercial airplanes division here in the Puget Sound region. Since last October, the company has shed 5,041 positions. Its total employment stands at 159,161.
With air traffic declining, Boeing also announced it will slow production on its 777 line here in Everett next year, likely leading to more layoffs in commercial airplanes than initially announced.
