The Boeing Co. announced deals Tuesday with two carriers for its popular 777 jet.
Tuesday afternoon, Ethiopian Airlines said it had placed an order for five 777-200 Long Range jets. The order, valued at $1.3 billion at list prices, is the first 777 order for the carrier.
“The Boeing 777 will be integral as we bring our business to the next level,” said Ethiopian Airlines Chief Executive Officer Ato Girma Wake, in a statement. “Boeing has been an important and valued partner to Ethiopian for many, many years. This order reinforces the deep ties between our two companies.
Ethiopian is the first African carrier to order an operate a 777-200 LR.
Earlier in the day, Boeing Co. announced an order for seven of its 777 jets from Turkish Airlines. The order, valued at $1.9 billion at list prices, is in addition to the firm order that Turkish Airlines placed for five 777-300 Extended Range jets earlier this year.
“This additional order is a further confirmation of Turkish Airline’s plans for international expansion and their confidence in the abilities of the 777-300ER to help them meet these goals,” said Aldo Basile, vice president of Sales for Europe and Russia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes, in a statement.
Boeing will add Turkish Airlines order to its net order tally of 17 when the company updates its orders Web site later this week.
