The Boeing Co. will build a 300-plus seat version of the 787, the executive in charge of the program said Monday.
“It’s not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when,” Boeing senior vice president Mike Bair said.
Boeing is still working on specifics, but the company expects it could have this larger version, the 787-10, to airlines late in 2012, he said.
It would be the fourth model of Boeing’s new composite jet. Boeing’s short-range 787-3 is expected to hold up to 330 passengers in all-economy-class seating for shorter flights. But for long-haul flights, Boeing has offered the 787-8, with a maximum capacity of 250 seats, and the 787-9, with a maximum capacity of 290.
