Having finally delivered its first 787 in September, the Boeing Co. is sending its Dreamliner on a world tour.
The new jet will embark on a six-month journey to visit 787 suppliers and customers around the world, Boeing said on Wednesday.
“This airplane is now changing the way the world flies, and we want to share that excitement with as many people as we can,” Ray Conner, vice president of airplane sales, said in a statement.
Boeing has picked its third 787 test plane to be the Dream Tour airplane. Flight test equipment has been stripped out of the aircraft and a new interior has been installed. Boeing also painted the jet in Boeing’s paint scheme.
“Our flight test airplane has turned into a show piece,” Scott Fancher, general manager of the 787 program, said in a statement. “Anyone who has seen the inside of a flight test airplane will be amazed at the transformation.”
The December schedule for the 787 Dream Tour includes six stops in Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Additional tour stops are being planned for January through April 2012.
Many of the stops will include opportunities for local media to tour the airplane and talk with Boeing executives and pilots.
