EvCC instructor creating Life Sciences certification

Everett Community College biology instructor Pamela Pape-Lindstrom is leading an effort funded by a National Science Foundation grant to create a certification process for the Partnership for Undergraduate Life Science Education, a nationwide effort to strengthen college-level life sciences education. The project helps teams of life science faculty develop their Life Sciences programs.

Lake Stevens student chosen as Washington aerospace scholar

Alexis Hepburn, a student at Lake Stevens High School, is among 100 students who qualified for the Washington Aerospace Scholars Summer Residency program out of the 212 students who applied in November. Washington Aerospace Scholars program Summer Residency sessions will be held in July at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.

Credit union awards scholarship to local students

NW Plus CU announced the recipients of its 2015 scholarships. Dana Arenz of Marysville and Sarah Kaye of Lake Stevens each received $2,000; Jeriah Bankson of Stanwood received $1,000; Danielle Fortin of Stanwood was awarded $750; and Caitlin Lingrey of Camano Island received $500. NW Plus CU established the scholarship program in 1993.

Hazel Miller Foundations gives grant to Edmonds Club

The Hazel Miller Foundation has awarded the Edmonds Club a $2,600 grant for their Junior Staff program. Through Junior Staff, teens gain practical leadership, time management, and group facilitation skills while receiving support to make and achieve their own goals related to high school graduation, post-secondary education, and future employment. The Edmonds Club has expressed appreciation for the grant.

Sound Financial finishes stock repurchase program

Sound Financial Bancorp has completed its stock repurchase program, repurchasing 63,371 shares of common stock, representing 2.5 percent of the company’s outstanding shares. The shares were repurchased in open market transactions at an average price of $19.84 per share. Sound Financial Bancorp is the parent company of Seattle-headquartered Sound Community Bank. It includes a full-service branch in Mountlake Terrace.

Snohomish shop opens to allow artisans to display wares

Artisans Mercantile in Snohomish has opened to offer a comfortable environment for Northwest artisans to sell their hand-crafted products. Each artisan has an individual space within the store with their story so customers can learn about the artisan and their product. The store is located at 117 Glen Ave., Snohomish.

Edmonds shop celebrates 14th anniversary

The Wishing Stone is celebrating its 14th year of business and 10 years in Edmonds at a celebration from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. There will be prize drawings, an anniversary sale and new merchandise. The store that features unique and artisan-made jewelry is located at 523 Main St., Edmonds.
