Briefs: Fashion with Compassion raises $8,000 for children

Guild C of Providence General Children’s Association raised more than $8,000 at its Fashion with Compassion fundraiser on Sept. 29 at the Everett Golf & Country Club. The event included a luncheon, fall fashion show and silent auction. Womenswear was provided by Burkett’s Savvy Clothing in Everett and children’s fashions were from BeeBops & Lollipops in Snohomish.

Inslee to attend advanced manufacturing center expansion

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee will join Everett Community College in celebrating the $2.5 million expansion of EvCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Training & Education Center at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the center, 909 N. Broadway. The celebration is open to the public. The expansion, which started in April, adds 17,000 square feet to the center to make it 54,000 square feet.

Sign up for Maritime Safety Day event

Maritime Safety Day is a special one-day gathering to be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Beach Park Event Center, in Des Moines. Jointly sponsored by the Department of Labor & Industries and the Governor’s Industrial Safety & Health Conference Advisory Board, paid entry includes a barbecue lunch. Sports Clips opens new franchise in Edmonds

On Tuesday, Sport Clips Haircuts will open a new location in Edmonds. The franchise, owned by Yen Liu, is located in the WinCo shopping center at 21940 Highway 99. Sport Clips in Edmonds will provide free MVP upgrades, including a massaging shampoo, hot-steamed-towel treatment and neck and shoulder massage, to all first-time clients who purchase a haircut service.

Donate for food drive at any Haggen store

Haggen stores have launched their annual Feed the Need Community Food Drive. All stores will collect donations until Tuesday. Customers can make a monetary donation at any check stand or donate shelf-stable goods in the stores. Customers can also purchase pre-loaded bags for $5 which contain pantry staples that will be donated.
