China Airlines opts for Boeing Internet
China Airlines will have the Boeing Co.’s aerial Internet service installed on its fleet of 13 747s. The companies said China Airlines will start by putting Boeing’s Connexion service on planes flying between Taiwan and North America. The installations will begin in the second quarter of 2005. China Airlines is the sixth airline to sign an agreement with Boeing to offer the service to passengers.
Lockheed to quiz Boeing officials
Lockheed Martin lawyers want to know if a former top Air Force official, recently sentenced to prison, played a role in the awarding of a space-launch services contract. Lawyers for Lockheed Martin won a judge’s permission last week to depose a Boeing representative about communications with the Air Force’s Darleen Druyun between January 1995 and October of this year as part of Lockheed’s civil lawsuit accusing Boeing of racketeering and illegally acquiring trade secrets.
Kenmore Air adds Burlington flights
Kenmore Air says it plans commuter air service between Skagit Regional Airport at Burlington and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Kenmore will provide three daily round-trip flights between Burlington and Seattle’s Boeing Field. A ground shuttle will take travelers the rest of the way to Sea-Tac. Consumer prices rise with inflation
Consumer prices in October posted their biggest increase in five months, pinching pocketbooks at the gas pump and at the grocery store. The latest picture of the nation’s pricing climate showed that inflation is picking up now that the economy has emerged from a slow spell.
Dollar slips to new low against euro
The U.S. dollar plunged to a new low against the euro Wednesday as markets shrugged off Washington’s insistence that it is committed to a strong dollar. The euro spiked up to $1.3047 in morning European trading, breaking through the week-old record of $1.3007.
Snohomish store launches food drive
For the fourth year, the Snohomish Top Foods store at 1301 Ave. D has launched a food drive to help the Snohomish Food Bank. Employees hope to raise $5,000 to fill the food bank’s Christmas baskets. Bins have been set up for donations, which will be accepted until Dec. 24. Customers who donate money can get a register receipt for tax purposes.
