The state Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development recently awarded more than $24 million for 29 low-income housing projects. The Housing Authority of Snohomish County and Housing Hope both received grants.

The Verizon Foundation presented grants to 16 of the region’s nonprofit agencies last week, including Cascadia Community College, $10,000 for its English as a second language program; Senior Services of Snohomish County, $10,000 on information referral services for seniors; Snohomish County Economic Development Council, $12,000 to develop a Web site to help recruit high-tech companies; South Snohomish County Chamber of Commerce, $10,000 for translating community information into multiple languages; United Way of Snohomish County, $18,000 to offer financial management courses for nonprofit groups; and YMCA of Snohomish County, $5,000 to support the 2006 Martin Luther King Jr. Community Celebration.
The Snohomish County Tourism Bureau’s Lynnwood Visitor Information Center is a donation drop-off site for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program. New, unwrapped toys may be left between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily at the center in Lynnwood’s Heritage Park, 19921 Poplar Way, on the east side of I-5.
