Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer each earned $1 million in the last fiscal year, an 11 percent raise over the previous fiscal year, Microsoft Corp. reported in a regulatory filing Wednesday. Gates, the software company’s chairman, and Ballmer, its chief executive, each earned a salary of $600,000 and a bonus of $400,000 for the company’s 2005 fiscal year ended June 30.
Cascade Financial raises its dividend
Cascade Financial Corp. is increasing its dividend. The Everett-based parent of Cascade Bank said it will pay a 9-cent dividend on Oct. 26 to shareholders of record as of Oct. 12. That’s an increase over June, when the bank company paid an 8-cent dividend at the end of the previous quarter.
Marysville to get a Grocery Outlet
Grocery Outlet, which focuses on low prices, will open an outlet in Marysville on Oct. 9 at 9620 State Ave. On the opening day, there will be free gifts to the first 100 customers. There will also be a drawing for a new car and a Sony Play Station. The operators will be Steve and Deniece Gates. Stores hours will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Sonus cancer drug reaches key tests
Sonus Pharmaceuticals Inc. of Bothell is starting a pivotal phase 3 trial of Tocosol paclitaxel, the last step before the company asks the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to approve the chemotherapy drug for regular patient use. The study, which will involve about 800 women with breast cancer, will compare Tocosol with Taxol, the leading approved chemotherapy drug.
CombiMatrix wins Air Force contract
CombiMatrix Corp. of Mukileo has received a one-year, $338,000 contract from the U.S. Air Force for the development and production of devices to detect pathogens that cause upper respiratory and wounds infections. CombiMatrix already has worked with the government and military in recent years to develop devices to detect biological weapons.
ICOS reincorporates in Washington state
ICOS Corp. of Bothell is now officially a Washington-based corporation. The company, which already is the largest biotechnology firm based in the state, previously was incorporated in Delaware for tax reasons. The reincorporation in Washington was completed Tuesday.
