Greg Belvill of Allstate Life Insurance in Everett recently obtained the professional designation of chartered reitrement planning counselor. The certification is offered by the College for Financial Planning and involves a course of study and qualifying exams.

Melody Grondahl of Allstate in Everett was honored for her volunteerism in the community. The Allstate Foundation recognized her work with a $500 grant to Junior Achievement of Greater Puget Sound, where Grondahl has volunteered for the past 10 years.

Andy Bryant, owner of Smokey Point Pontiac, Buick, GMC, was presented with a University of Washington Minority Business of the Year award last week for owning one of the highest growing minority-owned businesses in the state.

The grand opening of the Everett Area Chamber of Commerce’s new offices will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Dec. 2 at the new Everett Conference Center, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Suite 205. The chamber is hosting a business after hours event to show off the offices and the new conference center. Reservations are required before Nov. 28 by calling Vicki Smith at 425-257-3222.

A legislative reception organized by the Snohomish County Chambers Coalition will be from 4:30 until 7 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Northwest headquarters of Verizon Communications, 1800 41st St., Everett. The annual awards dinner of the Everett Chamber will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Everett Concert Center Ballroom at 2000 Hewitt Ave. Cost is $55 per person. Call 425-257-3222 for information or reservations.

The year-end celebration dinner of the Economic Development Council of Snohomish County will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Everett Golf &Country Club, 1500 52nd St. U.S. Sen. Maria Cantwell is the keynote speaker. Reservations are required by Dec. 9. Call 425-743-4567.

Washington workers laid off for trade-related reasons may qualify for temporary health coverage through a $1.5 million federal grant. Workers can check eligibility by visiting the local unemployment office or calling 877-872-5627.

People and employers can find and post job opportunities on a new database, called Interfase, set up by the Student Employment Referral Center at Everett Community College. Owners Douglas and Loraina Hall have broken ground on a new Grease Monkey franchise in the Buffalo Square Shopping Center near Mill Creek. It will open later this year.

Everett’s Best Western Cascadia Inn at 2800 Pacific Ave., was named a top performer for 2003 by Lodging Hospitality magazine. The selection is based on sales figures.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Snohomish County have received a $5,000 grant from the Allstate Foundation to support its mentoring program.
