Chris Herrera has joined the Lynnwood Police Department. He previously worked for the Mukilteo Police Department, where he was an officer for two years.

Francoise Askervold of Everett’s Macy’s store was honored recently for his service to the store and the community as was Jacqueline Roy of the Alderwood Macy’s. The Alderwood store was named north region store of the year for its employee volunteer program.

Tim Nowlis of the Boeing Co., will receive the first excellence in leadership award from Leadership Snohomish County on May 3. Nowlis was in the organization’s first graduating class and had since served on its executive and advisory boars in addition to working with many other community groups and charities.

Shari Jenkins, a senior financial adviser with Waddell &Reed Financial Services of Lynnwood, has received the firm’s Crest Award for productivity and financial advice. She was among 148 people to receive the award from a group of 2,250 of the company’s advisors around the country. James Jenkins, also from the Lynnwood office, qualified for the company’s annual Circle of Champions conference. He was among 700 advisors to be invited.

Getting Your Dough to Rise, the hour-long monthly investment program on KSER 90.7 FM, Snohomish County’s public radio station, will air Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m. Host Chuck Noel will feature Kenneth Fisher, a Forbes Magazine columnist and money manager, John Lidington of Tacoma’s Russell Investment group; and Karen Ramsey a certified financial planner from Seattle who has a new book called “Caring For Your Soul In Matters of Money.”

The state Employment Security Department is attempting to reduce unemployment fraud with new technology that checks to see if recipients are holding down a job in another state. Instead of waiting for months to get information, the new system should allow the agency to match names immediately with employment roles in other states.

Motivational speaker Ken Alhadeff of Seattle will be the keynote at the 20th annual business breakfast sponsored by the Public Education Foundation for the Edmonds School District. It will begin at 7 a.m. May 11 at Edmonds-Woodway High School. Cost is $25. Call 425-431-7260.

Host families are sought by the Nippon Business Institute for Japanese students in an education exchange program at Everett Community College. The program takes place from July 21 to Aug. 4 and will involve students from the sister cities of Everett and the Port of Everett – Iwakuni and Ishinomaki. News

Taxable retail sales increased 6.7 percent for the last three months of 2006, according to the state Department of Revenue. The sales totaled $29.33 billion. Snohomish County sales were up 7.3 percent, totaling $2.9 billion, or 10.1 percent of the statewide total. King County accounted for $39.3 percent and Pierce County was second, at 10.9 percent of total state sales. Everett rose 6.2 percent to $724 million. It was fifth behind Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma and Spokane. Lynnwood wasn’t far behind with $603 million in sales.

SonoSite, the Bothell ultrasound company, will report its first quarter financial results April 30 after the close of the stock market.
