Diane Symms has received a lifetime achievement award from the Washington Restaurant Association for contributions to the industry and to support of schools and nonprofit organizations in the community.

Robert Pritchard has joined Sparling as a principal who will focus on leading and developing the company’s technology practice. He will also serve as a member of Sparling’s executive committee. Prichard brings 25 years of experience in leadership and management of large technology-focused companies. He has held senior positions in fields such as mobile radio and satellite and telephone communications.

Haight Carpet &Interiors is celebrating 10 years of business in Monroe. Located at 207 N. Lewis St., the company has been in business for 50 years.

Walker’s Healthy Pet and natural foods, an all-natural pet food store, has opened a new store at 6501 196th St. SW in Lynnwood, its third store in Snohomish County and its fifth location overall. The new store opened in October.

Michael Parks, publisher of Marple’s Letter, which looks at the Northwest economy, will be the keynote speaker at an economic forecast breakfast. The event will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. Jan. 14 at the Embassy Suites in Lynnwood. Go to www.s2c3.com for registration and information.

Tall Taurus Media, a multimedia firm in downtown Everett, has received the 2008 AVA Gold Award for the Sports­Art Fitness Taiwan factory tour DVD, along with three 2008 Davey Awards. It won one Gold Davey for the State Roofing one-minute animation, “The Happy Roofer”; a Silver Davey for the SportsArt Fitness Taiwan factory tour DVD; and another Silver for the SportsArt Fitness E825 Elliptical promo DVD.

The International AVA Awards recognizes outstanding work by creative professionals involved in the concept, writing, directing, shooting and editing of audio-visual materials and programs.

The metropolitan Seattle area, which includes Everett, has been named the safest region in the country by Farmers Insurance Group. The company considered crime, weather, natural disasters, foreclosures, air quality and life expectancy in making its decision.
