Dr. Jeanine Sommerville has joined the family medicine staff at Providence Physician Group’s Marysville clinic. Sommerville previously worked as a family physician in the Family Practice Clinic at Charleston Air Force Base in South Carolina. Before that she was a senior medical officer on air bases where she coordinated medical care for critically injured troops and civilians in Singapore and Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Greater Lake Stevens Chamber of Commerce training seminars starts with QuickBooks Training, a two-part seminar scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Dec. 17. The class, which includes a one-hour dinner break, will be held in the Lake Stevens Sewer District’s conference room at 1106 Vernon Road, Ste. A. Honors
The Washington Public Ports Association has honored former Port of Everett Commissioner Don Hopkins for outstanding service to the port industry. Hopkins was elected to the Port of Everett Commission in November 1989, and served on the commission for 18 years. He was an active member in the association, having served on its board of trustees and marina committee.

Washington state has launched a multi-agency streaming video that gives new and small businesses easy-to-understand basics on how to plan for, prepare, and pay state business taxes and insurance premiums. The video guides business owners through the process as they face their tax reports. It answers basic questions such as which taxes and what rate businesses will have to pay; how and when to file state taxes; and what steps business owners should take to plan ahead. The video, which is also available with closed captioning for the hearing impaired, can be found at business.wa.gov/tax_video.aspx.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a Department of Defense agency, has opened the nomination season for the 2009 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. National Guard and Reserve members and their families are eligible and encouraged to nominate employers who have gone above and beyond in their support of military employees. The award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. government to employers for their outstanding support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Nominations are be accepted at www.Freedom Award.mil until Jan. 19.
