Jennifer Shelton, a business adviser who runs Snohomish County’s Small Business Development Center, advises entrepreneurs to come to terms with how owning a business is different from working for one – preferably before the new business launches. “There’s a difference between creating a job and creating a business. You don’t get weekends off, you don’t get evenings off. It’s always on your shoulders. You really have to love what you do. It’s hard on marriages. It’s hard on a lot of things.”
