The recent layoffs linked to Onex’s purchase of Boeing’s former Wichita operations have not gone down well with many in the community. Wichita Eagle editoral writer Randy Scholfield seems to have struck a nerve with this column, which appeared in the paper June 10.
In it, he spoofs the layoff notices the former Boeing workers got by writing a make-believe letter to a-you-just-got-the-ax executive.
Key Quote: “It is our duty to get the right mix of leaders with the best attitude, skills, experience and, of course, cost-effectiveness. To that end, we have hired a new management team of hungry young M.B.A.s from Nepal who have agreed to work for 85 percent less salary than present management. They sleep in tents. We think you’ll agree that represents a significant savings.”
