Delivery of Boeing 787s to Air India edges closer

Air India is one step closer to receiving the Boeing Co. 787s that are parked in South Carolina, waiting for delivery.

The Dreamliner deliveries have been caught up in a debacle with the airline’s compensation claim over Boeing’s nearly four-year delay. A pilot’s strike and government bureaucracy also have bogged down the 787 deliveries.

On Wednesday, a panel of government ministers approved Air India’s compensation claim, reports Dow Jones. Next, India’s Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs will have to give its OK before Air India can take delivery of its Dreamliners. A date for the cabinet’s next meeting wasn’t given.

Several Boeing 787s are lined up in North Charleston awaiting Air India. The carrier not only will receive two 787s built in Everett, it will take delivery of the first Dreamliner built in South Carolina.
