MUKILTEO — General Electric showed off its GEnx engine, built for the Boeing Co.’s 787 Dreamliner, Monday in Mukilteo.
The engine manufacturer flew a Boeing 747 jet equipped with the new engine into Everett’s Paine Field around 10 a.m. The plane and 787 engine then were on display for a few hours at the nearby Future of Flight Aviation Center and Boeing Tour.
GE flew the 747 jet into Seattle to conduct tests on the GEnx engine, according to the company.
The stop in Everett was mainly to let Boeing officials get a look at the Dreamliner engine. GE plans to gain Federal Aviation Administration certification on the engine in mid-March.
Boeing also offers a Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine on its 787 Dreamliner. The Rolls-Royce engine is expected to be powering the 787 when it takes its first flight before the end of June.
