Learn to restore and repair vintage airplanes

EVERETT — The Historic Flight Foundation and Everett Community College are partnering to offer classes in vintage aircraft restoration and repair starting April 16.

The Vintage AeroTech program helps capture history and preserve it

for future generations by assisting students and mid-career professionals in learning the art of restoring historically significant aircraft to flying condition.

The first class is radial aircraft engines offered 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 16, 23 and 30 at Paine Field. The cost is $550.

The class covers U.S.-manufactured radial aircraft engines used during the World War II and post-World War II era. Participants learn design theory and operation principals; explore engines in a hands-on lab setting; tour a radial engine overhaul facility; and participate in flight-line demonstration of the maintenance and ground running of radial engine powered aircraft.

This class is designed for vintage aviation enthusiasts, aviation mechanics and anyone who wants to learn more about vintage aircraft in a hands-on setting.

2011 State of Naval Station Everett luncheon April 14

Learn about the role Naval Station Everett plays as Everett’s neighbor on the waterfront and the second-largest employer in Snohomish County.

Capt. Michael Coury, who took command of Naval Station Everett in 2010, will present his first State of the Station address. An optional captain’s tour follows the event from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 14 in the Grand Vista Ballroom at The Commons (on Naval Station Everett), 2000 W. Marine View Drive, Everett.

The cost for Everett Area Chamber of Commerce members is $35 paid before April 5, $40 after; general admission $60; Sponsor a Sailor $35 (the Navy Affairs Committee is seeking ticket sponsors to provide a free ticket to the event to sailors and guests).

UW Bothell expands career fair with a second day

Due to high demand from employers, University of Washington Bothell Career Services has added a second day to its spring career and internship fair. Job seekers can now meet with prospective employers April 20 and 21. The event is free and open to the public.

Employers planning to attend include AT&T, Target, First Investors Corp., ING Financial Partners and U.S. Sen. Patty Murray’s office. Hours are 3 to 6 p.m. April 20 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 21.

Applications for interested employers are still being accepted online at www.uwb.edu/careers/employers/events.

EvCC hosts Snohomish County Job Fair April 29

EVERETT — Employers from a variety of companies will be looking for new employees at the spring Snohomish County Job Fair April 29 at Everett Community College.

The fair is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in EvCC’s Parks Student Union multipurpose room, 2000 Tower St. For a list of companies attending, go to www.snocojobfair.com.

The job fair is the largest general employee recruiting event north of Seattle. More than 3,000 job-seekers from Snohomish, Whatcom, Skagit, King, Island and Pierce counties attended one of the three job fairs held in 2010. The job fair is free and open to the public.
