The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is pushing for hundreds, perhaps thousands, of Boeing Co. aircraft to be inspected for fuel system problems.
The Wall Street Journal reported the problem this morning.
The FAA wants Boeing jets – single aisle 737s and widebody 747s and 777s – inspected for possible air leaks that lead to engine stoppages. The issue is not related to the British Airways 777 crash at Heathrow earlier this year.
Loose nuts and fittings could result in “total loss of pressure of the fuel feed system” when suction from the engines is being used to supply them with fuel, the WSJ reports.
