EVERETT – Multimeters meet metalheads in a commercial filmed Friday for Fluke Corp., which is launching a Web-based campaign to tout its test and measurement products.
The ad being filmed by Everett-based Sierra Media Inc. featured a rock band with a lead singer who flies through the air after a shock from his microphone.
The message: A Fluke test meter can help avoid nasty shocks by checking to make sure amplifiers, mics and other electrical equipment are properly grounded.
Daniel Cardenas, owner of Sierra Media, said the concept for the ad came from one of Fluke’s marketing managers. The first ads should show up at www.fluke.com in the coming weeks, according to the locally based company.
Daniel Lorentz, an actor from Mukilteo, got the role of Danger – the lead singer for the fictional band Thrasher Invasion. With a wire attached to his back, he rehearsed over and over the crucial point where he flies out of his shoes thanks to his “electrified” microphone.
That meant shouting his big line – “Are you ready to rock?” – over and over as well. Decked out with a 1980s-style big-hair wig and rock star regalia, Lorentz said it was a fun role, though.
In the background of the commercial, a Fluke character named “UberTech” – played by Greg Preston of Woodinville – watches as the band plays.
Sierra Media also has shot promotional videos for other local firms, including Intermec Inc., Kimberly Clark and BE Aerospace, Cardenas said.
Launched in 1948 and now a division of Washington, D.C.-based Danaher Corp., Fluke has workers and operations in 100 countries around the globe, including about 1,000 employees in Everett.
