Free the Wall Street bull, group says

A New York City community board wants officials in the Big Apple to remove metal gates around the famous Charging Bull statue in Lower Manhattan’s financial district, saying the barricades are endangering tourists.

Community Board 1 passed a unanimous resolution against the barricades around the bronze bovine. The gates were put in place last September to protect the bull during Occupy Wall Street protests in the area.

The board says the barricades in Bowling Green force tourists to stand in the street to take photos of the sculpture.

The New York Post says the board also called for less intrusive security measures.

A Department of Transportation spokesman says the agency is working to create additional pedestrian space around Bowling Green.
