Gasoline prices continue to set records locally, with the average gallon of regular unleaded fuel in Snohomish County reaching $3.56 on Monday, according to AAA. That’s up 73 cents from a year ago and 39 cents compared with a month ago. A gallon of diesel is now at $4.10 on average, also an all-time record and up $1.21 from a year ago.
Garlic Jim’s pizza opens in Marysville
Garlic Jim’s Famous Gourmet Pizza opens a new location in Marysville today, the 52nd store for the Everett-based pizza franchise. The Marysville store is at 1246-A State Ave., in the Safeway Plaza shopping center. The franchisees are Gene and Sherri Morin, longtime area residents. Garlic Jim’s, which recently signed a sponsorship agreement with the Mariners and Safeco Field, is known for offering gourmet-style pizzas with toppings such as chipotle pesto, marinated artichoke hearts, sun-dried tomatoes and feta cheese.
Bothell’s Nastech suffers loss
Nastech Pharmaceutical Co. lost $12 million, or 47 cents a share, in the fourth quarter of 2007, up from a $10.7 million loss in the same period of the prior year. The Bothell-based biotechnology firm said its loss for all of 2007 equaled $52 million, nearly double the $27 million lost in 2006. Revenue for last quarter was up to $6.4 million, thanks largely to a payout by Procter &Gamble Pharmaceuticals, which decided in November to end its agreement to help Nastech develop a nasal spray to treat osteoporosis.
Microsoft licenses Adobe software
Microsoft Corp. has licensed Adobe’s software for viewing online videos and other files on cell phones, the companies said Monday. Microsoft will distribute Flash Lite and Reader programs from Adobe Systems Inc. to cell phone makers who use its Windows Mobile software. Flash also allows users to interact with more Web sites. It’s the software behind most shopping sites where you can view an item in different colors or try out house paint colors on a virtual home.
Verizon CEO’s pay hits $20.3 million
Ivan Seidenberg, the chief executive of Verizon Communications Inc., received $20.3 million in compensation in 2007, up slightly from $20.2 million the year before, according to a regulatory filing Monday. Seidenberg’s bonus was $4.2 million, down $52,500 from 2006. His stock award was virtually the same as in 2006, about $13.1 million, and his salary remained $2.1 million.
T-Bill rates lowest in four years
The Treasury Department auctioned three-month bills at a discount rate of 1.1 percent, down from 1.42 percent last week. Six-month bills were auctioned at a discount rate of 1.31 percent, down from 1.450 percent last week. For a $10,000 bill, the three-month price was $9,972.19 while a six-month bill sold for $9,933.77. Separately, the Federal Reserve said Monday that the average yield for one-year Treasury bills, a popular index for changing adjustable rate mortgages, fell to 1.52 percent last week from 1.66 percent the previous week.
