Gasoline prices are leveling off

Just before Memorial Day weekend, one of the busiest on the roads, the average cost for a gallon of unleaded fuel in Washington state was $2.39, according to AAA. The average in the Seattle-Bellevue-Everett area as of Wednesday was $2.43 a gallon, 9 cents higher than a year ago. Prices have been generally falling over the past few weeks, however, since they topped out above $2.50 a gallon locally.

Boeing 777-200LR starts test flights

The Boeing Co.’s second 777-200LR had its first flight Tuesday. The ultralong-range airliner flew for five hours after taking off from Paine Field in Everett. It’s one of two planes Boeing will use for flight testing of the new model, which is the world’s longest-range commercial jet. Boeing plans to fly the second plane to the Paris air show in June.

Goodrich in Everett gets top FAA award

Goordich Corp.’s Everett jet maintenance base has received its sixth consecutive corporate diamond award from the Federal Aviation Administration. It’s the top honor for aircraft repair and maintenance facilities. The agency gives the award to facilities where a high percentage of aviation maintenance technicians have completed advanced training. In addition to the group award, more than half of Goodrich’s Everett mechanics were given individual awards for completing advanced training programs.

Boeing completes deal for 20 737s

The Boeing Co. has completed a previously announced deal for 20 737s jets with Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise. The deal is worth about $1.1 billion at list prices, although it’s likely the leasing company got a discount.

New Fresca flavors due out in the fall

The soft drink Fresca is getting two new flavors, Coca-Cola Co.’s North American division said Wednesday. The two new zero-calorie flavors – sparkling peach citrus Fresca and sparkling black cherry citrus – will be introduced in the U.S. in September.

HealthSouth jury still deliberating

The judge in Richard Scrushy’s fraud trial is trying to prevent the case against the former HealthSouth Corp. CEO from winding up in a deadlocked jury and mistrial. U.S. District Judge Karon Bowdre instructed the panel for a third time Wednesday on a pivotal conspiracy charge. Scrushy is accused in a nearly $2.7 billion earnings overstatement scheme at the medical rehabilitation and services chain.
