I was in Stanwood earlier today visiting with a new business owner when a customer wandered into her store and asked a question that caught my ear. Did she know anything about the Great Northwest Glass Quest?
Alright, maybe I just like shiny things or the thrill of the hunt, but I think the glass quest is just a little bit nifty.
Here’s how it works. Glass ball facsimiles are hidden at businesses around the Stanwood-Camano area. If shoppers find the facsimile, they return it to the business and redeem the inside for a real glass ball, made by glass artist Mark Ellinger.

It’s based on Lincoln City’s “Finders Keepers” campaign, and it’s designed to help small businesses out during slow winter months. As of late last month, more than 60 businesses and organizations are participating in the quest in Stanwood.
