Teamsters Local 38, which represents 2,600 people in the grocery business in Snohomish County, has ratified a new contract Wednesday night with Albertsons, QFC, Fred Meyer and Safeway.
Two other unions that represent grocery workers in the county will complete their voting later this week.
Teamsters Local 38 secretary-treasurer Steven Chandler said 97 percent of those voting at the Holiday Inn in Everett approved of the contract. Both the Teamsters and other grocery workers had earlier approved a strike by a 90 percent majority if they could not reach a contract.
The votes brought them back to the bargaining table and a new offer from the grocery chains.
