CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Harris Teeter is recalling more than 4,000 pounds of mislabeled chicken noodle soup that contains egg, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced.
A grocery store employee found that the chicken noodle soup products, manufactured by Charlotte-based B. Robert’s Foods, were incorrectly labeled as “Harris Teeter Fresh Foods Market Chef’s Recipe Chicken and Wild Rice Soup,” according to a USDA news release. The product, with UPC code “6108819179,” product code “57878” and a Jan. 31, 2015, expiration date, did not correctly list egg, a known allergen, as one of its ingredients.
Harris Teeter reported the error to B. Robert’s Foods, which found that the products had been incorrectly labeled. The soup had been distributed to grocery stores in the Carolinas, Florida, Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington D.C.
Matthews-based Harris Teeter is a subsidiary of Cincinnati-based Kroger.
The USDA said it has not received any reports of adverse reactions to the soup, but encourages anyone concerned about illness to contact a healthcare provider.
