NEW YORK – Say goodbye to Jeeves.
The days are numbered for the butler who adorned the Web site Ask Jeeves and for the name itself.
“Jeeves will disappear, and we will probably be called Ask or Ask.com,” said chief executive Barry Diller, whose IAC/InterActive Corp. acquired the search engine in July.
The search engine is key to tying together the company’s many Internet operations, including Ticketmaster and match.com. “It is potentially the glue for all of our companies,” he said.
The priority is to increase the site’s market share and to increase the number of searches each visitor performs so it is more of a challenger to search engines such as Google, Diller said. He said the average number of queries is up about 25 percent from a year ago.
“We’re at the very early stages of search,” he said.
