The Boeing Co. has sold 39.5 acres of land in Mukilteo to a developer who plans to build 108 homes there.
The purchase price was not disclosed. Boeing’s statement announcing the deal says it plans to take the proceeds and “invest (them) back into its core businesses and people.”
The developer Harbour Pointe LLC, plans for construction to start in January 2006, and promises a master-planned community complete with green belts and open spaces.
The undeveloped land is part of a 138-acre parcel Boeing has owned along Harbour Pointe Boulevard. It’s “the last significant parcel in the area,” developer Mike Miller said in a press release, and as such it “represents an exceptional opportunity.”
Miller could not be reached immediately for comment.
The sale involved the western-most part of the parcel. Boeing plans to hold on to the remaining acreage, which includes two manufacturing buildings that total about 900,000 square feet. The buildings are leased to other companies.
Boeing no longer operates at Harbour Pointe. It pulled out of its facilities there in 2002, outsourcing some of the work it used to do there, moving some to other factories and the rest into the main Everett plant.
Boeing was successful in asking the city of Mukilteo to rezone the land for mixed residential or industrial use in 2003. The company continued to work with the city and Mukilteo School District as it worked on plans for selling the property, Boeing spokesman Dean Tougas said.
Mukilteo Mayor Don Doran praised the deal, saying in a statement that the sale “finally unlocks the tremendous potential of this undeveloped acreage,” which he predicted will become “an idyllic setting for a single-family residential neighborhood.”
