If you carry around a thumb drive, you’re just as vulnerable for catching a computer virus as you are on your home computer. Enter ClamWin, a free program for all versions of Windows (going back to 98), that will scan your thumb drive as well as your hard drive.
ClamWin can be downloaded from www.clamwin.com. Unlike other antivirus programs, it installs on your thumb drive. After it’s installed, ClamWin downloads the latest program update, along with current virus-slayers.
The advantages of carrying around an antivirus program on your thumb drive are fairly obvious. For example, if you are using a public computer you can easily get a virus just from downloading a file from the Internet, or even from the public computer itself. As you work on files on your thumb drive, you can scan your thumb drive, PC’s hard drive or individual files — handy for just scanning the file you may have just downloaded.
Unlike other antivirus programs, you have to manually run a virus check.
