SNOHOMISH — Kohl’s plans to build its third store in the area at Snohomish Station, the new shopping center along Bickford Avenue that also will host Fred Meyer and Home Depot.
The store’s opening date and other details were not available, as Kohl’s could not be reached for comment. The chain’s other local stores, however, are nearly 90,000 square feet in size.
It will take some time, however. The shopping center’s first big store, Fred Meyer, isn’t scheduled to open until next spring, said Corbitt Loch, the city of Snohomish’s planning director.
Snohomish Station, being developed by Bellevue-based Wakefield Properties on a former gravel quarry, is expected to include more than 450,000 square feet of retail space when completed. Economically, it’s one of the single-largest projects in the city’s history.
Last year, Kohl’s opened its first Snohomish County stores in north Marysville and near Alderwood mall in Lynnwood. The Wisconsin-based retailer of clothing and housewares has expanded quickly around the Puget Sound area.
The only other confirmed tenant for Snohomish Station so far is Starbucks, Loch said. Wakefiled Properties could not be reached for comment. A Mill Creek-based real estate company has been actively recruiting other businesses for the smaller retail spaces planned in the development.
Architectural drawings for Snohomish Station and a site plan can be seen online at the city of Snohomish’s Web site, www.ci.snohomish.wa.us.
