LYNNWOOD – Alderwood mall will host a job fair next week to help fill more than 500 full- and part-time openings created by businesses in the shopping center’s new additions.
The job fair, organized by the mall and WorkSource of Snohomish County, will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25.
Many of the three dozen new stores and restaurants opening in November will be represented, mall spokeswoman Tamera Wachter said.
“We’re excited about this. There are so many great opportunities with the new stores and variety of new restaurants,” she said.
The Village and The Terraces, the outdoor shopping and dining wings still under construction at the mall, are scheduled to open the week of Nov. 4.
Alderwood expects at least 800 to 1,000 job applicants to attend next week’s fair. Prospective employees should bring a resume and dress appropriately for an interview. They are asked to use the mall’s southeast entrance, between Bon-Macy’s and Sears.
Because many of the jobs are suitable for entry-level workers, high school students are encouraged to apply, added Lindsay Nagel, youth account executive at the Snohomish County Workforce Development Council.
When completed, Alderwood’s two-year expansion project will include a total of 50 new retailers and restaurants, as well as a new 16-screen movie theater complex. The project’s total cost is estimated at somewhere between $50 and $100 million.
The mall’s businesses and operations office currently employ about 2,500 people at least part time, according to Alderwood. That collective total would rank the mall as one of the top five private employers in Snohomish County.
Additionally, during the busy Christmas shopping season, the number of employees at Alderwood usually balloons to more than 4,000.
Donna Thompson, local labor economist with the Employment Security Department, said the Alderwood job fair will be one of the larger ones recently held in the county. On Wednesday, the Everett WorkSource office where Thompson works hosted a job fair for the Stillaguamish Tribe, which was hiring for nearly 190 openings at its new Angel of the Winds casino near Arlington.
