Middle East airlines order Boeing 737s

The Boeing Co. on Tuesday announced two deals with Middle Eastern airlines that are buying 737s. Turkish Airlines has exercised options for eight 737-800s, the company said, while EgyptAir has ordered six 737-800s and taken options on six more. Boeing said the firm orders from the two airlines are worth about $970 million at list prices, but analysts say airlines have been negotiating discounts of 25 percent or more. Turkish Airlines is exercising an option agreement that was part of a deal it made in 2004 for 15 737s. The new planes all will be delivered in 2008. EgyptAir and Boeing said they had come to terms on their deal last week. EgyptAir’s six planes will be delivered from 2006 to 2009.
