Fifteen years translates to 65 employees and locations in Western Washington and Oregon for the owners of Diamond Knot Brewery.
My colleague Michelle Dunlop writes about the Mukilteo-based business in today’s paper. It all started with two men who loved beer and let their hobby get “out of control” 15 years ago.
When Diamond Knot opened in 1994, it was the only brewery in the county. And Snohomish County was a rough market, according to Michelle’s story. Residents weren’t so keen on the flavor of microbrews, and the brewery’s customer base was mostly in King County.
More recently, Diamond Knot owners say they weathered the recession pretty well. The original location is on track to see a 10 percent increase in sales over 2008.
“People will still drink their alcohol,” owner Bob Maphet says.
