Unemployment climbed to a 26-year high of 9.5 percent in June, with about 476,000 jobs eliminated nationwide and a slump in weekly wages.
Obama told The Associated Press he thinks the housing and financial markets are stable, but he acknowledged that the nation is still hurting for jobs.
