EVERETT – The Snohomish County Economic Development Council program that helps small businesses land government contracts has got a new manager.
Erin Nielsen became the statewide manager of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center this month, following the retirement of the previous manager, John Tamble.
The procurement center helps businesses around the state find local, state and federal contracts to bid on, and helps them to prepare the bids. In the 12-month period ending Nov. 30, the program helped companies around the state win more than $94 million worth of government business.
The program is primarily funded by the Department of Defense.
It’s based in the Economic Development Council’s office in Everett, with regional representatives in Aberdeen, Lacey, Mount Vernon, Seattle, Spokane and Vancouver.
Nielsen has been involved with the program for five years as its regional representative in Seattle.
During that time, she worked for Community Capital Development Corp., a private non-profit business assistance agency in Seattle, where she was involved with the government procurement program and the agency’s minority business development center.
