Forget failed FAA inspections, fuselage cracks and faulty aircraft wiring … travelers have a new reason to fear flying: Naomi Cambell.
The supermodel was arrested on Thursday after allegedly spitting at a police officer in Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5.
Onboard a British Airways jet due to depart to Los Angeles, Campbell apparently became enraged when she learned the carrier had lost one of her two checked bags. reports that Campbell “screamed insults” at airline workers, who eventually called police to have the model removed from the plane.
A source told the paper that Campbell allegedly was “going nuts, spitting, punching and lashing out.”
The incident delayed the British Airways flight by 90 minutes. The airline told the publication it was reviewing whether Campbell would be allowed to fly British Airways again.
This isn’t the first time that Campbell’s antics have drawn attention while flying. She attacked a fan for filming her during a flight back in 1998.
The Thursday incident steers additional spotlight on the chaos British Airways has faced since opening the new terminal. The carrier reported yesterday that its baggage handling glitch and canceled flights have resulted in a loss of $32 million in lost revenue.
The airline has hired additional help to sort through a backlog of 20,000 bags. Still, The Sun notes, of the 280,000 passengers who have passed through the terminal, only one – Campbell – has needed to be escorted out by police.
