MARYSVILLE – Grocery Outlet will open in October in a former thrift store space along State Avenue, giving the discount chain its fourth location in Snohomish County.
The new Marysville store is among four the company is adding in the state this fall.
“We’ve done well in Western Washington,” said Jon Wylie, vice president of marketing at Grocery Outlet Inc.’s headquarters in Berkeley, Calif. “The business climate is very favorable, and the customer response has been really favorable.”
The retailer focuses on getting the best deals from food, beverage and consumer goods wholesalers and manufacturers in order to offer lower-than-average prices at its stores.
In addition to operating stores in Monroe and Everett, Grocery Outlet opened in January at 19800 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.
The Marysville store will be at 9620 State Ave., where Home Thrift most recently operated, next to Dollar Plus. Wylie said the independent operators who will run the store, Steve and Denice Gates, are moving from California, where they already operate another Grocery Outlet.
With 122 stores in seven states, Grocery Outlet operates in locations ranging from Bellingham to the Mexican border.
Grocery Outlet is just one of several national or regional chains interested in Marysville. WinCo Foods, Kohl’s department store, Costco and Wal-Mart all are either planning stores or looking at sites in and around the growing city.
